Charles Eugene Deskins II

Associate

Charles Deskins’ practice focuses on insurance defense, bankruptcy, business law contract formations, trademark registration and defense, and basic tort claims. He is also experienced in regulatory gaming matters, family law, and estate planning.

Mr. Deskins received his Juris Doctor from Charlotte School of Law in 2015. He went on to earn his LLM from The William S. Boyd School of Law in 2018, becoming the first and currently only African American Male to receive a gaming policy & regulation LLM in the world. Mr. Deskins previously served as a Regulatory Compliance Manager and Associate General Counsel for a gaming company in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2022, he was honored with the National Bar Association’s “Top 40 Under 40 Nation’s Best Advocates” award.

Edmund M. Kennedy

Counsel

Mr. Kennedy’s practice focuses on trial and appellate litigation which includes civil rights, constitutional law, employment discrimination, administrative law, and other civil and commercial litigation. Mr. Kennedy represents a variety of public entities, private businesses, corporations, and insurers in litigation matters both before the trial courts and on appeal. Joyce H. Nakamura

Senior Counsel

Ms. Nakamura concentrates in estate planning, trust and estate administration, litigation, business succession planning, charitable planning, employee benefits and ERISA, including ERISA litigation.

Ms. Nakamura’s estate planning and trust and estate administration practice includes income and estate tax planning; succession planning for the closely held business owner; charitable planning; drafting of wills, trusts, and powers of attorney; administration of estates for decedents, minors, and protected persons; and the representation of clients in estate and trust litigation.

She works extensively with clients in the selection and implementation of welfare benefit plans and pension benefit plans. Ms. Nakamura works with clients in the area of compensation planning including the design and implementation of qualified and non qualified retirement plans, deferred compensation arrangements, qualified and non qualified stock options, and employee stock ownership plans. Additionally she assists clients in the claims review process and represents numerous clients in their capacity as trustees and plan administrators of ERISA plans.
