Benton Barton, Theresa Vogel, Lucas Myers, and Francesca Coleman will present at the 11th Annual Risk Control Seminar for Architects, Engineers, and Environmental Professionals at the Coors Field Conference Center on Wednesday, May 20th.

Our team will lead two interactive discussions tailored towards design and environmental professionals. In the first session, Benton, Theresa, Lucas, and Francesca will discuss how “keeping your eye on the ball” translates into effective risk management. The panel will address risk management strategies in project pursuit; how to achieve clarity in contract provisions; working through indemnity and insurance coverage terms; and how to follow a process, to get your work done on time, on budget, and most importantly consistent with your standard of care.

Benton will moderate a second panel featuring engineers from Rimkus to review how lawyers and experts effectively collaborate across the full lifecycle of a design and construction defect case, from initial investigation to trial.  Using case studies involving different types of projects and claims, the panelists will dive into pre-suit investigation, discovery and analysis, mediation and settlement, and trial or arbitration. At each phase, they will examine how expert witnesses can assist with legal strategy and drive resolution. Through stage-specific commentary, they will also look at owner-side and contractor-side approaches, with practical guidance on expert retention, scope definition, report development, and testimony.

This seminar was first conceived in 2014 and is hosted by Van Oppen & Co. 2, powered by Inszone Insurance Services.  Before and after the seminar, we will enjoy food, drinks, networking opportunities, and an afternoon ballgame in the Coors Field Summer Suite watching the Colorado Rockies v. Texas Rangers. Continuing education credit will be offered.
