Andrew D. Ringel

Mr. Ringel’s practice focuses on trial and appellate litigation. His practice includes litigation of claims involving civil rights, constitutional law, employment discrimination, land use, insurance bad faith, ERISA, long-term disability, accidental death and dismemberment, life insurance, health care, premises liability, and other civil and commercial litigation. Mr. Ringel regularly litigates claims under Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, 42 U.S.C.§ 1983, 42 U.S.C. § 1981, the Equal Pay Act, RFRA, RLUIPA, and other federal and Colorado statues. Mr. Ringel represents a wide variety of public entities, public officials and employees, non-profits, businesses, corporations, and insurers in litigation matters before federal and state trial courts and appellate courts in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.

Ryan L. Winter

Member

Mr. Winter has a diverse litigation practice and represents a wide array of regional and national businesses. He has successfully defended hundreds of commercial and tort cases in state and federal court. A significant part of his practice focuses on large, complex tort cases, and his practice areas include sports and recreation law, product liability defense, professional liability defense, public entity defense, and premises liability defense.

Mr. Winter has served as the contact partner and supervising attorney on numerous high exposure, tort and commercial lawsuits, including cases involving allegations of wrongful death, brain injury, and other traumatic injuries. Mr. Winter is equally adept at defending cases in which the injuries are purely economic, as he has served as lead counsel on numerous multi-million dollar cases alleging property damage, design deficiencies, and construction defects. He has represented his clients as counsel in trials, appeals, arbitrations, and mediations. He has achieved defense verdicts, prevailed on appeals, and obtained summary judgment for his clients on a number of occasions. Mr. Winter tries to manage litigation efficiently while still obtaining the best possible outcome for his clients.

Matthew J. Hegarty

Mr. Hegarty joined the firm in 2012 and was promoted to Member effective September 2019. Mr. Hegarty’s practice concentrates on trial and appellate litigation, chiefly the defense of matters implicating public entities and their employees under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act, of a wide variety of employment discrimination claims, and of ERISA and long-term disability claims, along with defense representation in recreational use law, premises liability matters, construction defect matters, land use matters, and other civil claims. Mr. Hegarty’s clients include a wide variety of municipalities and public officials, small- to medium-sized businesses, and nonprofits throughout Colorado and other Rocky Mountain states. Mr. Hegarty also provides pro bono immigration representation to undocumented women and their families via referrals from Denver’s Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Clinic.

Brian L. Taylor

Member

Brian Taylor practices in our Billings, Montana office.  Mr. Taylor is a litigation attorney with a historically diverse practice.  His practice primarily focuses on civil defense where he has represented clients in a wide variety of cases including bad faith and product liability.  He also represents a number of insurance carriers in traditional insurance defense matters and insurance coverage issues.  His experience in the product liability field has covered a wide spectrum of self-insured automobile manufacturers and component part manufacturers. His experience representing automobile manufacturers includes a three-plus week trial in Great Falls, Montana involving a traumatic brain injury. 

Mr. Taylor’s litigation defense practice is centered in the field of transportation, insurance, medical malpractice, trucking, municipal entities, and product liability.  His experience in traditional insurance defense litigation includes property damage claims, personal injury claims, and larger construction defect lawsuits.  Mr. Taylor’s practice also includes representing many employers in employment related actions. Mr. Taylor has participated in numerous trials in both State and Federal Court throughout Montana.

Daniel Furman

Member

Daniel’s practice focuses on government affairs, regulatory law, and general litigation. Daniel’s government affairs practice centers on representing corporate clients before the Colorado General Assembly. On behalf of his clients, Daniel formulates policy initiatives and legislative strategies, advocates for or against legislation, and testifies before legislative committees.

Daniel’s regulatory law practice centers on representing clients before state regulators. Daniel assists his insurance clients with various matters before the Colorado Division of Insurance (“DOI”), including: (1) navigating through rate and form filing disputes; (2) preparing responses to market conduct examinations; (3) preparing forms for the acquisition of insurance companies; (4) preparing responses to DOI inquires and investigations; and (5) ensuring compliance with DOI regulations and bulletins.

Daniel’s general litigation practice centers on defending clients in various types of litigation disputes. Daniel’s experience includes defending clients in employment, premises liability, insurance, civil rights, commercial, tort, and malpractice disputes. On behalf of his clients, Daniel prepares pleadings; conducts all phases of discovery; drafts motions, including dispositive motions; conducts and defends depositions; and participates in mediations, settlement conferences, and court hearings.
